Troubleshooting Tip: My Brewer isn’t Brewing the Correct Amount
Published  5/2/18

A short cup occurs when your Keurig® brewer doesn’t brew the brew size selected and may be caused by a clogged needle (clogged by coffee grounds or cocoa mix), need to descale, or the reservoir being removed during brew. To correct a short cup, please try the below steps:

Materials Needed:

  • Measuring Cup
  • Mug
  • Beverage Pod

Troubleshooting Steps:

Step 1: Ensure the Cold Water Reservoir is seated properly. Remove and reseat the Cold Water Reservoir to ensure alignment is correct.

Step 2: Perform a water only brew on the 6 oz. or 8 oz. size into a measuring cup. If the expected amount of water was not dispensed, continue to step 3. Otherwise, troubleshooting successful – you are ready to brew!

Step 3: Are you using a Water Filter?

  • Yes: remove the Water Filter and run a water only brew (no pod). If the brew was successful, change the Charcoal Filter and put the Water Filter back in the brewer. If the brew was not successful, proceed to Step 4
  • No: proceed to Step 4

Step 4: Unplug the brewer

Step 5: Clean the entrance and exit needle. USE CAUTION. NEEDLES ARE SHARP!  Please refer to the applicable video below for cleaning instructions.

Step 6: Perform a couple of water only brews (no pod) on the 6 oz. or 8 oz. size. Use a measuring cup to determine exact flow amount of water dispensed. Was the proper amount of water dispensed from the brewer?

  • Yes: please continue to Step 7.
  • No: please call our Customer Service team for further assistance at 1-866-901-BREW(2739).

Step 7: Brew a pod to ensure the brewer is working as expected. Was the brew successful?

  • Yes: troubleshooting successful – you are ready to brew!
  • No: please call our Customer Service team for further assistance at 1-866-901-BREW(2739).

To ensure your Keurig® brewer is performing optimally, Keurig® recommends descaling your brewer every 3 – 6 months. For full descaling instructions, please refer to the applicable video below.
